My Garden

I have quite a good size back yard and have started clearing away overgrown grass and plants ready to put in some vegies. Keep an eye on this page to see how my vegie patch is going.

The patch shown in this photo has now mostly been dug out and I have planted some sweet corn and pumpkin. Still to be planted in this section are rockmelon, watermelon, beans, potatoes and so much more.
20th October, 2011 - Very excited, my broccoli and sunflower seeds have germinated! Now just waiting for the pumpkin, cauliflower, lettuce, basil and capsicum to do the same.
26th October, 2011 - Very excited, pumpkin and eggplant have now germinated. Planted tomato seedlings yesterday that were given to me by my next door neighbour.
17th November - Have now planted more strawberry seedlings, eggplant, zucchini, basil, rockmelon, capsicum, celery.
12/12/11 - very excited, walked out into the garden over the weekend and found that my rockmelon has flowered and there are little ears of corn making an appearance. Tomatoes are looking great, strawberries are nearly ready to eat although showing signs of overwatering (fruit have split) and zucchini leaves have a silvery colour along the veins of the leaves. Will investigate the cause and see what needs to be done about it.
14/12/11 - ate our first strawberries and new season plums!
21/12/11 - picked my first tomato yesterday, a reasonable sized one weighing 100g. I have decided to weigh and record all the produce from my garden for the next 12 months so I can work out out economical it is. There are flowers on my pumkins, rockmelons, zucchinis and capsicums. My eggplant has also come back from the dead, however something has eaten all the leaves off my marigolds and consequently killed them off. It is a shame as they were looking so lovely the week before.
Over the last 3 weeks I have picked: at least 11kg of plums from our plum tree, 1 punnet of strawberries, 3 good sized tomatoes (300g total), 1 zucchini (500g), many bunches of basil, lemon verbena and mint, and half a dozen leaves of spinach. Ready to pick this week are more strawberries, tomatoes and mint. Corn will be ready to pick soon as well as more zucchini.
19/1/12 - since the 21/12/11 I have picked3 1/2kg of plums, 18 tomatoes weighing 1.7kg, 7 zucchinis weighing 2.5kg, 7 ears of corn weighing 870g. I have picked many strawberries, although they are often too small to weigh, they are probably the equivalent of a punnet. I have also picked basil, lemon verbena, mint and spinach which is often in small amounts, too small to weigh.
19/1/12 - 30/1/12 I have picked 7 zucchini weighing 1.87kg, 2 ears of corn weighing 180g, 3 yellow capsicum weighing 155g, 11 tomatoes weighing 1.33kg, 6 very small strawberries, 1 bunch of spinach weighing 25g and have had 2 peaches fall into my yard from my neighbours tree weighing 350g.
